rondinemail.com sets no cookies at all. The web app uses one strictly necessary cookie to keep you signed in. No advertising, analytics or social cookies.
About this policy
This Cookie Policy is provided by Rondinemail S.r.l., with its registered office at Via dell’Indipendenza 44, 40121 Bologna (BO), Italy, VAT number (P.IVA) IT04567890371 (“Rondinemail”, “we”, “us” or “our”). It explains how we use cookies and similar technologies on our website at rondinemail.com (the “Website”) and in the Rondinemail web app, the browser version of our email service (the “Service”) that you use once you have signed in. This policy was last updated on, and takes effect from, 1 September 2026.
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser so that it can recognise that browser on later requests or visits. Similar technologies include local storage, pixels, scripts and device fingerprinting, which can store or read information on your device, or identify it, in comparable ways. In this policy, “cookies” includes those similar technologies unless we say otherwise.
Cookies may be first-party, meaning that they are set by the website you are visiting, or third-party, meaning that they are set by another organisation, such as an advertising or analytics provider. They may also be session cookies, which are deleted when you close your browser, or persistent cookies, which remain until they expire or you delete them. Rondinemail uses a single first-party cookie and no third-party cookies at all.
This policy supplements our Privacy Policy, which explains more generally how we process personal data, and forms part of the information we give you under Article 13 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (the “GDPR”).
Our website: no cookies
The Website sets no cookies of any kind, whether our own or a third party’s. It uses no analytics or audience measurement tools, no advertising, no social media plug-ins or pixels, and no fingerprinting or other techniques that identify your device from its characteristics.
The Website loads no scripts, fonts or other resources from third-party domains. Our fonts are self-hosted and served from our own domain, so your browser does not contact a font provider or any other third-party domain when you visit the Website.
Like every website, the Website necessarily receives the technical information that your browser sends with each request, such as your IP address and browser type, in order to deliver the pages you ask for. This information is not a cookie and is not used to build a profile of you; our Privacy Policy explains how we handle it.
Because the Website uses no cookies or other tracking tools, it does not display a cookie banner. You do not need to accept or refuse anything in order to use it.
The one cookie in the web app
When you sign in to the web app, we set one cookie, with the following characteristics. Name: rm_session. Set by: Rondinemail (first-party cookie). Category: strictly necessary (technical) cookie. Purpose: to recognise your signed-in session, so that you stay signed in to your account as you move between pages. Duration: until you sign out or after 30 days of inactivity, whichever comes first; if you untick “Keep me signed in” when you sign in, rm_session becomes a session cookie and is deleted when you close your browser.
The rm_session cookie is marked Secure, so that your browser sends it only over encrypted (HTTPS) connections; HttpOnly, so that it cannot be read by scripts running in the page; and SameSite=Lax, so that your browser does not send it with most requests that start on other websites, which helps to protect you against cross-site request forgery.
The rm_session cookie contains an identifier for your signed-in session. Because that identifier is linked to your account, it is personal data. We use it only to keep you signed in, and never to track your activity on other websites, for analytics or for advertising. We process it because it is necessary to provide the Service you have asked for (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR), as described in our Privacy Policy.
The web app sets no other cookies. We use no advertising, analytics, social media or third-party cookies, and we do not allow any third party to set or read cookies through the Website or the web app.
Preferences kept on your device
The web app uses your browser’s local storage to remember the display preferences you choose, such as the tile colours you pick for your inbox and the layout of the reading pane, so that the web app looks the way you set it each time you open it.
These preferences are stored only on your device. They are not sent to our servers, are not read by any third party and are not used to identify or track you, for analytics or for advertising. Because they are kept by your browser, they apply only to the browser and device on which you set them.
You can remove these preferences at any time by clearing the site data for Rondinemail in your browser’s settings. The web app will then simply return to its default appearance.
Display preferences contain none of your mail. Even so, on a shared or public computer we recommend that you use a private browsing window and sign out when you have finished.
Why there is no banner
Article 122 of Legislative Decree no. 196/2003, as amended (the “Italian Privacy Code”), which implements Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC (the “ePrivacy Directive”), allows information to be stored on, or read from, a user’s device only with that user’s consent, given after being informed, except where this is done for the sole purpose of transmitting a communication over an electronic communications network, or is strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the user to provide that service.
The rm_session cookie falls within that exemption, because it is strictly necessary to provide the signed-in web app that you have asked to use. The display preferences described above are stored in local storage at your own request, solely to apply the settings you have chosen, and are likewise strictly necessary to provide that functionality. In line with the Guidelines on cookies and other tracking tools adopted by the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, the Italian data protection authority (the “Garante”), on 10 June 2021, technical cookies and tools of this kind do not require consent, but users must be informed about them, which is the purpose of this policy.
Because we use no cookies or other tracking tools that require consent, we do not display a cookie banner on the Website or in the web app. If we ever decide to introduce a cookie or similar technology that requires consent, we will update this policy first, and we will not set it unless and until you have given your consent in response to a clear and specific request.
Tracking in your mail
Many senders embed spy pixels in their messages: tiny, often invisible images that report back to the sender when, where and on what kind of device a message was opened. Many also add tracking parameters to links, so that they can tell who clicked them.
To protect you from this kind of tracking, Rondinemail automatically removes spy pixels from incoming mail before a message opens, and removes tracking parameters from the links in the messages you receive, so that each link still takes you to the intended page but without the identifiers the sender added to recognise you.
These protections run automatically as part of the Service and do not involve anyone reading your mail. No automated filtering can recognise every tracking technique, so we review these protections regularly as tracking methods change.
Managing cookies in your browser
You can view, delete and block cookies and other site data in your browser’s settings. In current versions of the main browsers, the relevant options are found in the places listed below, although menu names may vary slightly between versions and devices.
Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security. Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data. Safari on Mac: Safari → Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data. Safari on iPhone and iPad: the Settings app → Safari (under Apps on recent versions) → Advanced → Website Data. Microsoft Edge: Settings → Privacy, search, and services, and Settings → Cookies and site permissions. Each browser’s help pages explain the exact steps for your version and device.
If you delete the rm_session cookie, you will be signed out of the web app and will need to sign in again. If you block cookies for Rondinemail, you will not be able to sign in to the web app or stay signed in. The Website will continue to work normally in either case, because it sets no cookies.
Clearing the site data for Rondinemail also removes the display preferences kept in local storage, and the web app will return to its default appearance. Using your browser’s private or incognito mode has the same effect as unticking “Keep me signed in”: the cookie is deleted when you close the private window.
Because neither the Website nor the web app uses tracking cookies, signals such as “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control do not change how they behave: there is no tracking to switch off.
Changes and contact
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes to the Website, the web app or the law. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. If we make a material change, such as introducing a cookie or similar technology that requires consent, we will tell you in advance, in the web app or by email, and we will ask for your consent wherever the law requires it.
